Local printing firm looks to the future with apprenticeship scheme

27th July 2015

A Runcorn-based firm is creating new job opportunities for the younger generations by welcoming apprentices into the business. TALL Security Print, part of the TALL Group of Companies, is offering hard workers the chance to gain NVQ qualifications whilst obtaining on the job experience.

Kieron Acton, 21, from Runcorn, was TALL’s first apprentice under the new apprenticeship scheme. After passing a three-month trial period, Kieron joined the team as a full-time Apprentice Print Finisher whilst studying for an NVQ in Print Finishing under the guidance of a tutor from the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF). BPIF is a strong advocate for helping young people to develop careers in the print industry through quality placements and learning opportunities.

Runcorn resident Bethany Norwood, 19, has also joined the TALL team. She is currently completing a 3-month trial period after joining the company as a full-time Pre Press Technician Apprentice this summer. At the end of her trial period she will commence her NVQ training.

Peter Andrew, Group Sales & Marketing Director, said: “We are really pleased to get our NVQ placement offering up and running. Kieron is a real pleasure to work with and it has been good to see him progress. It is fantastic to see Bethany making strides too and it is very important for companies like ours to invest in our future generations.”

Kieron said: “It’s been great to get hands-on experience with TALL. The staff here are very helpful and I’ve learnt a lot. I would definitely recommend apprenticeships to anyone who is serious about progressing their career.”

Martin Dalziel, Kieron’s BPIF Tutor, added: “Through his experience at TALL, Kieron has learnt about all aspects of secure document print finishing from using a guillotine machine to specialist document binding equipment. This makes it an ideal training placement for young people who want to understand printing. We’re delighted that this placement is going so well, Kieron has covered a lot of ground in a short space of time at TALL”
